Summer Plans with Plantar Fasciitis

Summer is still going, but has your plantar fasciitis pain put a wrench in your plans? You are not alone. Heel pain is a common concern as people manage foot conditions. Most people share that they first experience pain in the morning after an extended period of rest. If you’ve been sitting down for a while, the pain may come back as you’re ready to move again. The pain can be sharp and very uncomfortable. It can certainly cause you to reconsider the rest of your day.

The doctors at PodiatryCare, PC and the Heel Pain Center often treat this discomfort in athletes, but plantar fasciitis affects a wide range of patients. Common causes are tightened calf muscles, flat feet, or simply doing too much while playing sports or exercising.

If plantar fasciitis becomes a sudden problem for you this summer, there is hope. Here is how we can help:

Provide options for more support

The plantar fascia plays an important role in providing arch support. When it is inflamed, you will need even more support. We can help with custom orthotics or other forms of cushioning. If you have flat feet, know that we will continue to work with you to provide comfort.

Partner with a physical therapist

We partner with specialists all the time. A physical therapist can help you recover from the discomfort of an inflamed plantar fascia. Physical therapists have an expert understanding of how our bodies move. They can help you recover in a way that won’t cause additional harm. Are you open to physical therapy?

Pick the right shoes

Your heel pain could be caused by your shoe selection. Did you know wearing the wrong pair of shoes is a common cause of many foot problems? We see it so often. More importantly, we can quickly see how a shoe change can make a significant difference in alleviating pain from symptoms. If you have questions about how to pick the right shoes, we’re here to help you.

Do you think you have plantar fasciitis? Pay attention to your heel pain and when it comes around. Regardless, any form of pain is a perfect reason to make an appointment with a podiatrist.
