Use technology to check in with others
The doctors at PodiatryCare, PC and the Heel Pain Center encourage you to continue practicing social distancing to protect your community from the coronavirus. With these guidelines, more people are at home and relying on technology to communicate and check-in with loved ones. While you’re catching up on current events, be sure to encourage healthy living, foot care, and exercise. Here are three questions to ask.
How are you feeling?
Social distancing may be a strong tool for fighting a virus, but it can lead to sadness or loneliness. Think of someone who is living alone or has additional caregiving responsibilities. Check in on them and set a schedule to consistently maintain contact and provide encouragement. Asking this question may initially be uncomfortable, but it is valuable.
Have you been able to exercise?
Exercise looks different for everyone, so just focus on movement. From walking down the driveway for mail collection, to finding an exercise routine online, just encourage physical activity. This is important for everyone, but especially for people with diabetes and arthritis. Share exercise tips or resources or invite them to join you for a virtual workout session. This helps with accountability.
Have you checked your feet today?
This question is very important for someone who has diabetes. While inside the home, it can be easy to skip over routine habits. Asking a friend or loved one about this kind of maintenance helps to keep them aware. If you hear of any new cuts or bruises, encourage a call to the podiatrist.
