3 Common Foot Conditions for Kids

Taking special care of your child’s feet is very important. Not only are their bones more fragile, but kids grow at a super-fast rate. Combined with their high activity level, it’s not hard for kids to injure themselves or develop a serious condition without proper guidance and care. Below are three of the most common foot and ankle problems your child could run into and how you can prevent them together.

One: Flat Feet

If your child has little to no arches, don’t stress! Flat feet are a totally normal part of their development. With time, your kid will most likely grow arches. If they don’t or if they’re experiencing pain from their flat feet, be sure that you contact a podiatrist. They will assess their condition and be able to treat your child’s pain.

Two: Growing Pains

Growing pains can be super challenging for your kid. On the flip side, it’s a sign that your child is healthy and growing stronger each day. Discomfort and pain might be especially prominent after a long day of fun on their feet, like participating in sports or going to an amusement park. Warm baths and a long night’s rest should help ease their pain. Once your child gets into their early teenage years, the discomfort should start to go away. If that’s not the case, seek the help of a podiatrist. They’ll be able to determine if there’s another underlying issue at hand.

Three: Ingrown Toenails

Ingrown toenails may not seem like something that could impact your kid, but it’s surprisingly common. Toenail pain could simply be from not trimming their nails correctly. But if the problem is recurring, it could mean they have ingrown toenails. Treating ingrown toenails can be more complicated than an easy at-home fix, so it’s important that you get the help of a podiatrist. Prevent this condition by taking extra care when cutting their nails and buying the right size shoes.
