The Time is Now: Call A Podiatrist
It can be challenging for many of us to pick up the phone and call a doctor. Even when the scheduling is online, the task alone can feel overwhelming. Regardless of how long it may take you to make the decision, we want you to know we’re always here for you and your family. If you are wondering if and when you should contact a podiatrist, this blog post is for you.
The doctors at PodiatryCare, PC and the Heel Pain Center often see patients later than they would prefer. Diabetic foot ulcers, for example, are foot problems that demand our immediate attention. There are other cases, too. The initial feeling of pain should prompt you to visit a foot and ankle specialist. It could require a simple fix — or something more.
We hope the questions below bring you to our office sooner rather than later.
Do I have an infection?
If you are asking yourself this question, drop what you’re doing to call us. Infection is something we don’t take lightly. It is painful and has the risk of spreading to other parts of the body. Signs of infection include redness, pain, swelling, and discharge around the area. Limb loss is a significant risk for patients with diabetes, so we ask that you don’t hesitate to alert us of any concerns.
Is the pain going away?
This is a trick question. If you have pain, whether consistent or sporadic, give us a call. We would regret the sudden progression of dull pain to something more severe. By reaching out to us early, we can find the cause of the initial pain and create a treatment plan. If you remember anything from this blog, remember that pain is a priority to us. Call every time.
Did I hurt myself again?
Many people are recovering from injuries when something takes a turn. Even with the best intentions, the wrong move can cause returning pain. Unfortunately, it can also lead to re-injury. We always encourage our patients to follow the doctor’s orders after an injury or surgery. If you have any doubts about whether you have shifted your recovery phase, give us a call.
There are so many reasons to call us. If you have questions about your feet and ankles, we’re here to help. It is our pleasure to help you find the root of your pain and provide relief.
