Podiatrists: Foot and Ankle Professionals

Do you know the three letters behind a podiatrist’s name? At PodiatryCare, PC and the Heel Pain Center, we know that our patients trust us to provide the best foot and ankle care. Today, we’re answering common questions about which details set a podiatrist apart from another specialist. Follow along for the short answers.

Are podiatrists doctors?

Yes, we’re doctors! One big difference is that we go to podiatry school instead of medical school. We attend an accredited podiatry school for four years. Then we will complete a residency. This sounds similar to other doctors, right? One difference is that we have “DPM” instead of “MD” after our names. We are doctors of podiatric medicine.

What do podiatrists study in school?

In college, we take a lot of science classes. We need to study physics, chemistry, biology, and other courses. What we learn in college is the foundation to help us during podiatry school. We need to understand how the body moves. Podiatrists in training learn about bones, nerves, muscles, and more.

Are podiatrists hard to find?

No, we’re in your neighborhood. Each day, patients are looking for relief from their foot and ankle pain. It’s our job to raise awareness that there are specialists right in their community. If you’re in Enfield or South Windsor, we’d love to welcome you and your family. There’s no need to tackle foot pain alone.
