What Should You Ask a Podiatrist?

Are you prepared for your next visit to your podiatrist? For first-time patients, we’re thinking about you, too. At PodiatryCare, PC and the Heel Pain Center, our doctors know that it may be difficult to start the conversation with your foot and ankle specialist. What’s most important for you to know is that we’re here to help.

Here are three questions to ask during your visit.

How often should I make an appointment?

Many people think that a podiatrist is only helpful during a foot and ankle injury. We’re here to help with prevention, too. For patients with conditions like diabetes, we recommend that you add us to your care team. In this case, we suggest regular appointments to align with visits to your other specialists. We want to be able to prevent common complications, such as diabetic foot ulcers.

Why do I have pain?

We expect this question, and we’re up for the challenge. We are pleased that you have taken the first step to address your foot, ankle, or heel pain and visit a podiatrist. With this question, we will spend time getting to know you more and learning about your history. From the pain level to how long you’ve experienced discomfort, all these details matter.

What can I do at home?

We want to empower our patients to learn more about their feet and ankles. More importantly, we encourage them to inspect their feet daily. We want to know about any changes, including swelling, new wounds, discoloration, etc.
