Fourth Quarter Check-Up
Wow! Time flies. Can you believe that we’re now in the last quarter of the year? How have you been doing? At PodiatryCare, PC and the Heel Pain Center, we enjoy seeing our patients regularly. We want them to know that we’re always ready to listen and help. During the fourth quarter, and as the holidays approach, we think it’s time for a check-up. Here are three areas to check before the end of the year.
Feet and ankles
Of course, we have to start with your feet and ankles. One of the best things our patients can do is to look at their feet and ankles daily. This helps them avoid fourth-quarter surprises. For patients with diabetes, daily inspections can be limb-saving — and life-saving. Use your senses to do a check-up. What do you see? Any new smells?
Toenails
We can neglect our toenails throughout the year, and that is a big no-no. Our toenails can be a sign of an injury or an infection. When looking at your toenails, pay attention to color changes, smells, and texture changes. If you see something that is new or concerning, schedule an appointment with your podiatrist. Ingrown toenails are common, too.
Skin
Is your skin moisturized, or is it cracked and peeling? For patients with diabetes, dry skin can be dangerous. It may create cuts or open wounds that can become infected. Have you noticed skin issues like non-healing wounds, blisters, new moles, etc.? These details matter and your podiatrist wants to know.
