Golfing and Foot Injuries
There is just one more reason to celebrate August: It is National Golf Month! Whether you enjoy bringing your golf clubs to a golf course or going to your favorite driving range, we know this month will bring you joy! Are you a professional golfer, or is it just a hobby? Either way, some foot problems could cause some trouble for your games. We’re here to help you avoid them.
The doctors at PodiatryCare, PC and the Heel Pain Center want to help you get back into the swing of things if you’re nursing an injury. If you have been injury-free while golfing, we are here to help you enjoy this way of playing. Don’t forget that podiatrists play a big role in prevention, too.
Here are three foot problems that affect golfers:
Ingrown toenails
I bet you didn’t think your toenails could cause trouble for your game. It’s true. When we don’t trim our toenails properly, there is an increased risk of developing ingrown toenails. In this case, the toenail grows into the side of the skin. For golfers, shoes with a narrow toe box can be a big problem. Trim your toenails regularly and properly. We can help.
Plantar fasciitis
It makes sense that heel pain could become a problem for golfers. Without stretching and the right amount of support, plantar fasciitis is a common complaint. As these athletes walk from one hole to the next, they are standing on their feet for extended periods. There is help for heel pain, including custom orthotics and the best tip yet — rest.
Achilles tendinitis
When you take your golf swing, think about the motion and intensity changes that can take place. One of the unfortunate outcomes may be Achilles tendinitis, which simply means the tendon has become inflamed. The golfer can expect pain and inflammation in this area. Address it quickly by visiting a podiatrist. If the tendon becomes ruptured, there is a more serious problem.
Happy National Golf Month! We’re here to help you take all the steps you need as you move around the golf course. Contact us if you have questions or concerns about your foot pain.
