Getting Motivated for Men’s Health Month
June is Men’s Health Month. We are so excited to hear how the focus is on health for men and boys. Their health matters, and we want to be part of helping them achieve this goal. Guess what’s happening this month? How can we help men and boys focus on caring for their overall health, including taking care of their feet?
It starts with empowerment. The doctors at PodiatryCare, PC and the Heel Pain Center want to equip their patients with the tools to take control of their health. It is a decision that we know our patients will not regret. Today, we’re talking about prevention tips for men’s feet.
Did you know that you can prevent many foot and ankle conditions? Here are 3 prevention tips for men and boys:
Know your health history
Did you know we inherit our foot structure? That’s right. If your parents have bunions, you may have them, too. If you understand you are at risk of developing a toe deformity like a bunion or hammertoe, you have time to stay ahead of pain and discomfort. Surgery isn’t your only option. Explore cushions, pads, and orthotics.
Talk to your family about their health history
If toe deformities run in your family, contact a podiatrist
You don’t have to be in pain; learn about your options
Get to know your doctor
Begin a conversation with your doctor and keep in touch. Visit them for annual check-ups. Talk to them about ways to stay ahead of pain and discomfort. Please don’t assume that doctor’s visits are only for emergencies.
Get to know the podiatrist in your neighborhood
Don’t be a stranger; don’t just visit for sickness or injuries
Keep the lines of communication open
Care more about your shoes
Do you try your shoes on before you make a purchase? When was the last time you measured your feet? When thinking about your shoes, we encourage you to do more research. Wearing the wrong type of shoes is the most common culprit for foot and ankle pain. The toe box may be too narrow, or the shoe may not match the sport.
Explore your options before buying shoes
Don’t guess your shoe size; measure your feet
Explore custom orthotics to meet your foot needs
