Summer Prep for Your Feet
School is winding down, and summer is coming. Are you ready? More importantly, are your feet ready for the warmer temperatures? We can think about common foot problems during the winter — like dry skin or even cold feet. A few concerns should capture your attention during the summer, too.
The doctors at PodiatryCare, PC and the Heel Pain Center are here to help you enjoy pool days, family vacations, and fun gatherings in the sun. We hope you can do those things without foot pain and other frustrating foot problems.
Here are three ways to prepare your feet for the summer:
Fix your foot pain
Before you go anywhere or plan to visit anyone, you want to make sure you can take pain-free steps. Addressing your foot pain now will help you have a fantastic summer without the mystery of foot pain.
Find the cause of your pain by visiting your podiatrist
If you have an injury, take time to recover fully
Be open to orthotics or a shoe change
Get summer shoes
One of the best ways to protect your feet this summer is to keep them clean, dry, and covered. Keeping them covered requires more than picking up a pair of flip-flops. You need support.
Sandals are OK; only choose options that provide arch support
Look for shoes with traction
Allow your shoes to air out each night
Stock up on sunscreen
May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. We should be wearing sunscreen every day. As the temperatures rise, our feet and ankles are more likely to be exposed and applying lotion matters. Skin cancer affects our feet and ankles, too. Include these parts of your body when you’re out in the sun.
Check the expiration date on your sunscreen
If you are in the water or playing a sport, plan accordingly
Talk to your doctor about any changes to your skin
The summer is a fun season, and we hope you can enjoy every moment! We’re here to help with any foot concerns you may have. Fix your foot pain by giving us a call. We can help you determine the cause of your discomfort, and we will create a treatment plan, too.
