We’re so close to spring! From soccer to baseball, track, and golf, spring sports are another fun way to keep the family active and fit. While trying your best to improve your family’s health, you may cause more harm if you skip one step: checking footwear. At PodiatryCare, PC and the Heel Pain Center, doctors have the experience to treat the whole family and help prevent sports injuries.

Are you ready for spring sports? See if you can agree to these statements.

I measured my or my child’s shoe size.

Although most adults won’t change shoe sizes from one year to the next, some factors can influence this change. Pregnancy may be more comfortable with a larger shoe size, for example. Health conditions may require a different style of shoe that is of a different size. For adults, it doesn’t hurt to check your shoe size before beginning a sport. For children, whose feet are constantly changing throughout development, it’s helpful to measure their feet often.

I have the right pair of shoes.

Golf requires a particular style of shoes, and the same goes for other sports. Don’t make the mistake of assuming that running shoes will support your feet during each sport that you play this spring season. Ask your podiatrist or the sales associate for advice on how to select the proper footwear.

My previous injury is fully healed. My doctor approves.

After an injury, it is important to allow your body time to heal fully. Rushing back to regular routines, especially playing a sport, can lead to reinjury. It is not only painful but also impactful to your recovery time.
